Equinor Mongstad – Johan Sverdrup

Location: MongstadPeriod: 2017 – 2018Customer: Aker Solutions, Bergen Application: Pressure relief valves pipelines – loading area BH Flexflo pressure relief valves valves (pressure surges / anti surge valves) are installed at Mongstad and have protected instruments and pipelines against potentially harmful pressure waves (water hammer) for approx.
30 years.
When the Johan Sverdrup field started up in 2019, the volume and viscosity of incoming oil increased.
The pressure relief valves also had to increase their capacity to accommodate the new conditions.
Instead of installing more pressure relief valves, we proposed using instrument panels that increased the capacity of the 11 existing Flexflo valves.
With this solution, each valve has a higher capacity and the total number of pressure relief valves required was actually reduced.
Fewer valves also means lower maintenance costs going forward.
As part of the upgrade, some of the internal parts of the valves were replaced.
