Genesis™ is a technological breakthrough for multiphase detection measurement from Magnetrol within
Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) which is the base technology for today’s Guided Wave Radar (GWR). It builds on more than 20 years of experience with (GWR) in Norway. This gives us confidence in a well-known and recognized technology.
It is now possible to continuously measure dynamic levels of the various phases in separators.

Multi-phase/multi-phase level measurements are found throughout the process industry. They are particularly important in the oil and gas, as well as petrochemical sector as an efficient separation of water and hydrocarbons provides great economic benefits.
As level instrumentation has come a long way in measuring liquids of different types, multiphase/interface level measurement is often considered the biggest challenge within the various measurement principles available today.

Genesis™ multiphase detector from Magnetrol is designed to measure multiple phases in applications with thick and dynamic emulsion layers:
– Gas
– Total level (top of hydrocarbon liquid)
– Top of emulsion (“water in oil”)
– Bottom of emulsion (water – “interface” / water level)
– Sand (sediment – “water bottom”)

Patented internal algorithms process dynamic level changes inside the separator.
Measures all “five phases”
– Gas-top of oil
– Oil with water (top of emulsion)
– Water with oil (bottom of emulsion)
– Sand (sediment)

Signals are sent from both ends of the probe:
– “Top/down” signal gives a clear overview of the oil layer
– “Bottom/up” signal gives a clear overview of the water level

The Genesis™ multiphase detector from Magnetrol is now being launched as an alternative for new projects, but also as a direct replacement for current meters, e.g. based on the radioactive measurement principle.
Patented “top/down” and “bottom/up” signals are used together with advanced level detection algorithms. This provides a wide range of multi-phase/interface applications, from very light hydrocarbons to water-based media.

In applications where there is a risk of product buildup of probes, NORSOK I-001 requires a flushing device. This is now integrated into the probe, and the flushing frequency is adapted to the needs of the individual application.
